VIRGINIA CHAMBER ANNOUNCES "FANTASTIC 50” COMPANIES for 2004
The Virginia Chamber of Commerce has announced the ninth annual "Fantastic Fifty" list of 50 of the fastest-growing companies in the state. The winning companies were saluted at the annual awards banquet held at the Westfields Marriott in Chantilly on April 29.
The ceremony also recognized the companies with the highest growth rates in five specific business categories with the Virginia Vanguard Awards. This year the Virginia Vanguard winners were: Highest Growth Overall: THR Enterprisies, Inc. of Norfolk, a general contracting firm; Technology: AeroAstro, Inc. of Ashburn, a provider of small space satellites and related technology products; Manufacturing: Apollo Press, Inc. of Newport News, a commercial printing firm; Service: Preferred Systems Solutions, Inc. of Fairfax, which provides IT support and engineering services; and Retail/Wholesale: Lumber Liquidators in Colonial Heights, a provider of hardwood flooring.
America Online, Inc. was presented with the 2004 Community Commitment Award in honor of its extraordinary community outreach in pursuit of a better Virginia. AOL is the inaugural recipient of this prestigious tribute which was created by the Virginia Chamber as a way to recognize the positive nature of business impact on the quality of life in Virginia. Senator Frank W. Wagner of Virginia Beach was also presented with a certificate of appreciation for his leadership in the Virginia General Assembly protecting and enhancing the business climate of Virginia.
The Fantastic 50 award program is sponsored by the Virginia Chamber, Virginia Business Magazine, Goodman and Company, SunTrust Bank and Westfields Marriott. The networking reception prior to the awards banquet was sponsored by Old Dominion Electric Cooperative. The Virginia Department of Business Assistance, freeRadical and In Your Ear music studio were also Fantastic 50 sponsors.
Nominations for the Fantastic 50 were sought statewide from local chambers, economic development organizations, and through the sponsors’ networks. Companies could also nominate themselves. To be eligible, companies were required to be privately held, with headquarters in Virginia, and to show sales between $200,000 and $100 million. They were judged on a four-year sales revenue history. Verification of all award entries was conducted by the professional service firm of Goodman and Company.
