Small-town Fayetteville is a launching point for New River adventure-seekers as well as an artsy mountain town. Every third Saturday in October hundreds of BASE jumpers parachute from the New River Gorge Bridge as part of the Bridge Day Festival.

Hard Rock offers trips and training for climbers, and the mountain biking is top-notch on the Arrowhead Trails. The Beckley Exhibition Coal Mine nearby is a museum showcasing region's coal heritage. Tourists can descend nearly a quarter mile to a former coal mine.
