Learn About This Location
The initial settlers of Lancaster were predominantly emigrants of German heritage that came from Pennsylvania. Ohio's longest continuously operating newspaper, the Lancaster Eagle-Gazette began after a merger of the early Der Ohio Adler with the Ohio Gazette. The two newspapers were fierce competitors due to their opposite positions on the American Civil War. The newspaper is currently part of the Newspaper Network of Central Ohio, a unit of Gannett Company, Inc.
Modern Lancaster is a rich blend of 19th-century architecture and natural beauty (best seen at the famous Standing Stone, known as Mount Pleasant today) with all the modern amenities of a typical small-medium-sized American city.
