Learn About This Location

While named after a Latino, this city's name is pronounced 'Martin-ez', not in the Spanish pronunciation. The founder was José Martínez y Saldivar, an affluent Cuban. The plantation he purchased in Columbia County was called El Cordero Ranch ("The Lamb Ranch"). The Ranch is only 20 acres in size, but several buildings, barns, and original water tower still stand.
