Like a Southern belle with an attituide all her own, this historic town is centered around antebellum architecture and the local student body of the Savannah College of Art & Design. It lies along the Savannah River, 18 miles from the coast, surrounded by Lowcountry swamps and oak trees dripping with moss. With its mansions and beautiful town squares, the city preserves its past with pride. But unlike its sister city of Charleston, which still holds its reputation as a dignified cultural center, Savannah is a little more gritty and real.
