Learn About This Location

Fremont was established in 1956 from the merger of five smaller communities: Centerville, Niles, Irvington, Mission San Jose, and Warm Springs; and named after explorer John Charles Frémont (the Great Pathfinder.) Seated in the southeast side of the San Francisco Bay Area, Fremont has a population of around 220,000, making it the 4th most populous city and the largest suburb in the Bay Area. It is the closest East Bay city to Silicon Valley, and home to the largest population of Afghan-Americans in the US.
