Golden is the county seat of Jefferson County, Colorado, and lies along Clear Creek at the base of the Front Range. Established during the Pike's Peak Gold Rush in 1859, it was originally named Golden City in honor of Thomas L. Golden. 

The Colorado School of Mines is located in Golden, as well as the National Renewable Energy Laboratory, National Earthquake Information Center, Coors Brewing Company, CoorsTek, Spyderco, American Mountaineering Center, and Colorado Railroad Museum. Jolly Ranchers are from Gloden originally, before the company was bought out by the Hershey Foods Corporation. William F. "Buffalo Bill" Cody is buried nearby Golden on Lookout Mountain.
