Plymouth lies 15 miles west of Minneapolis, amd is the third largest suburb of Minneapolis–Saint Paul, the fifteenth largest metro area in the United States, with 3.46 million residents. Its history dates back to the pre-Columbian periodof 1400 to 1500 AD. The original inhabitants were the Dakota, with their encampment at the north end of Medicine Lake.
