Mountain View is a city located in the southern part of the Bay Area, and takes its name from its spectacular views of the Santa Cruz Mountains. From its beginnings as a stagecoach stop, it has grown to include a pedestrian-friendly downtown and a population of 75,000.
Mountain View is famous for being home to many high technology companies. The first company to develop silicon semiconductor devices in 1956 was established in Mountain View. Today, the city's tech giants include: Google, Mozilla Foundation, Symantec, and Intuit, and the first 50 Apple I computers were sold from there.
