Nearly 20 miles south of downtown Denver and directly south of Centennial, Colo., Lone Tree is small but filled with arts and culture, shopping and recreational opportunities. The area was incorporated in 1995 and is considered one of the top places to live in the South Denver Metro area. Many of its resident’s commute to jobs in Denver or other suburbs, and the Sky Ridge Medical Facility is a big employer.

The Community of Lone Tree

Lone Tree is bisected by Interstate 25 with the southwest part of the city housing the hospital and many businesses. Colorado State Highway 470 also runs through Lone Tree and provides access via Yosemite Street. Most of the residential areas are to the west of the interstate and shopping is primarily to the north.

What to Do in Lone Tree

The Lone Tree Arts Center is one of the reasons why the city has a thriving arts and culture scene. The center regularly hosts concerts in both outdoor and indoor venues as well as musicals, presentations and lectures like the National Geographic Live series. An art gallery on site features rotating historical and arts exhibits.

Bluffs Regional Park is a don't-miss spot for great views of both the surrounding scenery and bustling Denver. A main 2.4-mile loop trail is easy for most to walk and also allows biking and horseback riding, plus connector trails let you extend your hike if you wish. Pack a picnic and enjoy your lunch at the trailhead's small shelter.

As the largest shopping center in the state, Park Meadows Mall has nearly every store you can think of in a unique luxury setting with Grand Mountain Lodge architecture and featured artwork by local artists. Both full-service and quick-service restaurants mean you won't go hungry.

Though Lone Tree was incorporated relatively recently; the area has a long history in ranching and agriculture. Schweiger Ranch is a historic landmark that was once was owned by Austrian immigrants. You can tour the restored house, silo and stable during tours on the third Saturday of the month.
