About Slough, UK

Learn About This Location

Slough is a city in Berkshire, 20 miles west of London. In 2011, it had a population of 140,200 and was the most ethnically diverse town in the United Kingdom outside London.

In 1086, William the Conqueror's Domesday Book lists some landowners in 'Upton', but the first recorded reference to Slough was in 1196. Most scholars think that the name came from the muddy land between Upton and Eton. It is home to the Slough Trading Estate, the largest privately owned industrial estate in Europe.
