About Katy, Texas

Learn About This Location

In the mid 19th century Katy was known as Cane Island, named after the creek that still runs through the area, which was filled with sugar cane planted by fur trappers. In the middle of the coastal plane– this ‘island’ of cane was surrounded by miles of tall grass; thus it became known as Cane Island. The road from Harrisburg to San Antonio, known as the San Felipe Road, ran through it.
