Norman is a city in Oklahoma, 20 miles south of Oklahoma City within the greater metropolitan area. The city was settled during the Land Run of 1889, which opened the Unassigned Lands of Indian Territory to pioneer settlement. The city was formally incorporated on May 13, 1891. The city is home to the University of Oklahoma, the largest university in the state, which has approximately 30,000 students. The U of O is well known for its sporting events by teams with the nickname "Sooners," and over 80,000 people regularly attending football games. The university houses several museums, including the Fred Jones Jr. Museum of Art, which has the largest collection of French Impressionist art of any
