The capital of the state, Olympia is a major cultural hub for the Puget Sound area. Olympia is located 60 miles from Seattle, and lies within the Seattle CSA.

The first recorded visit by Europeans was in 1792 was by Peter Puget and a crew from the British Vancouver Expedition. Edmund Sylvester and Levi Smith jointly claimed the land that's now the downtown in 1846. Soon after, the Congress established the Customs District of Puget Sound for Washington Territory and the city served as the home of the customs house. The town grew with the influx of Oregon Trail immigrants and in 1850, the town settled on the name Olympia, after the Olympic Mountains.
