Hillsboro is the fifth-largest city in Oregon and the seat of Washington County. Situated in the Tualatin Valley on the west side of the Portland, the city hosts many tech companies and is known as the Silicon Forest.
For thousands of years the Atfalati tribe of the Kalapuya lived in the Tualatin Valley near Hillsboro. The moderate climate made the area ideal for fishing, hunting, foraging and agriculture. Settlers first came in 1842. Transport by boat on the Tualatin River was part of Hillsboro's early economy.
