Williamsburg is perhaps the most historic town in Virginia– home to Colonial Williamsburg, which is among the biggest, most comprehensive living-history museums in the world. The city lies in the northern part of the Hampton Roads metropo area, and is bordered by James City and York Counties.
It was founded in 1632 as a fortified settlement between the James and York rivers, and served as the capital of the Colony of Virginia. It has the College of William & Mary, the second-oldest College in the US; its alumni include three U.S. presidents and other important people in America's early history.
