Wilmington is the largest city in Delaware, established on the site of Fort Christina, the first Swedish settlement in America. It's located where the Christina River and Brandywine Creek meet. It is one of the larger cities in the Delaware Valley metropo area. The city was named by Thomas Penn for Spencer Compton, Earl of Wilmington, who was prime minister during the time of George II of England.
