Chesterfield County is located near the Virginia's capital of Richmond. The county borders lie at the James River to the north and the Appomattox to the South. Its county seat is Chesterfield Court House. As of the 2010 census, the population was 316,236, making it the third-most populous county in Virginia. Chesterfield County is part of the greater Richmond Metropolitan Area, and the northern portion of the county is referred to as Richmond's "South Side".
