About Mountain View

Technology is considered to be biggest draw in Mountain View, CA. As the home to Google, Intuit, Symantec and Mozilla, Mountain View draws a eclectic crowd of business people, investors and those who'd simply like to know more about their favorite innovators. Located at the Southern end of the Bay Area peninsula, Mountain View was once a stagecoach stop and later was home to the Moffett Field Naval Air Station. The name comes from the ability to see the nearby Santa Cruz mountains.

The Community of Mountain View

Mountain View's downtown is small but packed with shops, cafes and popular restaurants. Also downtown: a plaza outside City Hall and the Mountain View Center for the Performing Arts (MVCPA). The Cuesta Park neighborhood contains the city's hospital, El Camino Hospital, and some of the older homes in the city.

What to Do in Mountain View

The Computer History Museum is well located due to the city's recent history as a tech hub, and visitors can explore exhibits about the people and discoveries that led to modern computing as we know it. Educational programs for a range of ages are hosted at regular intervals, including the Design_Code_Build program for middle school students. Tours and demos help even the least computer-savvy among us to better understand the role of computers in our lives. Adult admission starts at $17.50.

The Mountain View Farmers Market is considered one of the top 5 in the nation and hosts more than 80 vendors every Sunday. Seek out handmade goods in addition to produce, meats and artisan breads.

For a refreshing walk, take the Bay Trail, a 350+-mile path that runs around the bay but has a particularly nice section through Mountain View. More than 50 varieties of birds call the marsh along the trail home, and you can get your nature fix just a short distance from the office buildings of the tech giants.

One Place You Shouldn't Miss in Mountain View

Google's campus is a fun place to stop by and the Google Android Lawn Statues are definitely worth a visit. These fun statues represent the code names Google used for its different versions. While you're there, stop by the official Google store nearby or pick up a bike and cycle around the campus. You'll have to know an employee to access the complex or cafe.

Dining in Mountain View

The award-winning Chez TJ lays claim to a Michelin star and offers a quality French dining experience in the form of multi-course tasting menus. Plan to spend about three hours and nearly $200 per person (not including wine, tax or tip) in the delightfully decorated Victorian home-turned-dining establishment.

Fresh sushi awaits at the well-reviewed Sushi Tomi. While the decor and experience are not fancy, you can enjoy some of the Bay Area's best and most authentic sushi here. Expect a line at nearly any time of day.
