Tokyo may be looking toward the future but traces of the shogun capital's history can still be seen on the kabuki stage, at a sumo match or under the cherry blossoms. The city is built on the old ways, and its alleys have anachronistic wooden shanty bars, raucous traditional festivals and yakitori stands. In older neighbourhoods artisans sell crafts made much as they have been for hundreds of years.
