Bentonville is the tenth-largest city in Arkansas and the seat of Benton County. IThe city is the headquarters for Walmart, the world's largest retailer. Originally named Osage after the Osage Indians who utilized the area for white settlers first arrived in 1837, the community was renamed Bentonville in 1843 in honor of politician Thomas Hart Benton. The city had an estimated population of 40,167 in 2013.
Bentonville is the site of the Walmart Corporate Office, which is highly visible within the city. The Walmart Visitor Center is located in the town square in Sam Walton's original 'Walton's Five and Dime.' The Home Office includes fifteen buildings along Walton Boulevard in the western section of the city. Just north is the Crystal Bridges Museum of American Art, founded by Alice Walton in 2011, which stations masterpieces from all eras of American art, including many from Walton's reserve collection.
